Lisa Fitzpatrick

Writer, author, and editorial director, Lisa Fitzpatrick has developed hundreds of titles and managed lines of publishing--including those featuring global brands in film and television--for publishers, film studios, production companies, nonprofits, and independent creatives.

About me

Sharing ideas and stories which uplift, inform, and inspire makes our worlds go ’round, in many ways. Certainly mine, for as long as I can remember.

As an author and publishing executive, Lisa Fitzpatrick’s print, film, and audio experience ranges from small presses to environmental initiatives and global brands in feature film and television. Having managed both lines of publishing and world-wide franchises, she’s also identified and developed hundreds of non-fiction titles for the book trade in both digital and print formats—from digital-only novellas and audio courses to dozens of heavily illustrated art, photo and children’s books. She’s assisted in the career development of numerous first-time authors and has had the opportunity to work with a broad variety of artists, from celebrated filmmakers, entrepreneurs, and independent creatives to non-profits and media-driven organizations as a co-writer, ghostwriter, book "doctor," editor, and book packager.

As the author of the bestselling original Art of James Cameron’s AVATAR (sold over 100K copies, translated into five languages) and co-author of both The Making of AVATAR and a recently published Men in Black retrospective, Lisa also recently crafted the forthcoming Avatar feature film series world-building bible—a nearly two-year project on behalf of James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment’s VP of Franchise Development. As a book packager, she developed the authorized directorial biography of Clint Eastwood (Malpaso/Abrams Books) and has ghost-written various manuscripts and essays.

As an art book editor, brand manager and licensing executive for Warner Bros Global Publishing, WB’s Integrated Marketing and Kennedy Miller Mitchell, she ran licensing for George’s Miller’s MAD MAX: Fury Road art and comic books (Vertigo). Publishing management at WB also included the full suite of TV properties (Chuck Lorre’s The Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, DC’s Gotham, The Flash and Bad Robot’s Person of Interest). For Paramount/Carlton Books she conducted the photo research for film historian and former Variety UK head Peter Cowie’s The Godfather: The Official Motion Picture Archives.

As senior acquisitions editor for two founder/CEOs, Lisa played a key role in the evolution from inception of two small presses into enduring, mid-sized publishing houses (Insight Editions/Mandala/Earth Aware and Sounds True Books & Audio) with mainstream, global distribution (as imprints of S&S and Macmillan, respectively). This included co-developing the entertainment and fine photography imprint Insight Editions—initiating new licensing partnerships with 20th Century FOX, DreamWorks, Sony, the Dalai Lama Foundation and the USC School of Cinematic Arts, among many others.

Lisa has authored and edited several policy-driven, non-fiction photobooks for Conservation International, the Global Environmental Fund and ILCP featuring the research of marine biologist/photographer Cristina Mittermeier (Sea Legacy). Prior to that, as acquisitions editor, she developed over eighty audiobooks (each its own long-form learning series) for the trade with national-level public speakers in health and wellness, including Julia Cameron, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg, and Dean Ornish.

A member of the Author's Guild, she's recently received the University of Chicago Graham School Editing Certificate (2022). A life-long learner, always got a stack of books floating around, and has acquired a few certificates along the way, in topics ranging from publishing (Stanford Certificate for Publishing Professionals), data analysis & presentation (Edward Tufte), music theory, a PADI license earned off the shores of Roatán, Honduras, meditation training (Gampo Abbey with Pema Chödrön - Nova Scotia, IMS with S.N. Goenka - Barre, MA, Thich Nhat Hanh's Deer Park Monastery, VT) and yoga (RYT 200, YOGABODY® Certified).
